On the 11th of August 2025, a long-held dream became a reality for the Four Square charity. We celebrated the opening of a new home for our Number Twenty service, a beautiful, supported accommodation designed specifically for young women experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh.
More than just a safe place to stay, Number Twenty provides a safe and welcoming environment for women aged 16 to 25. With 24-hour staffing, our trauma-informed keyworkers are always on hand to provide dedicated support, helping residents build the skills and confidence needed for independent living.
Each room is designed to be homely, ensuring every woman feels valued and safe. We also have communal areas for activities, meals, and group work, fostering a sense of community. Residents can stay for up to two years, or longer if needed, giving them the time and stability to secure suitable housing for their future.
A few tears were shed this week as we saw this big dream come to fruition. We were able to purchase this building with reserves built up from the sale of a commercial building, contributions from our social enterprise Edinburgh Furniture Initiative, and through vital funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery, Bank of Scotland and Landaid. We also had invaluable support from Social Investment Scotland who were the piece that made the rest possible.
We are incredibly grateful to all our supporters who donate furniture, shop, volunteer, and fundraise for us. This is the community in action. Every purchase at the Edinburgh Furniture Initiative and every donation has directly contributed to making this project a reality. Thank you for being a part of this journey and for helping us create a beautiful home that says, “You are valued, and we are here to help.”
