Residents can stay for up to 2 years or until suitable housing becomes available. During their time at Stopover, residents are offered opportunities to gain independent living skills and prepare them for moving on – such as budgeting, organisation and cooking.
Stopover is staffed 24 hours a day and access to the building is secure.
Stopover moved to fully refurbished premises with communal gardens in December 2022. The property comprises 18 bedrooms with young people having their own bedroom, storage and kitchen cupboards. Communal areas offer space where people can come together to eat, socialise, cook and get involved in group activities should they wish to.
There are a number of private spaces for therapeutic and support sessions such as counselling, art therapy and keywork.
We have visiting specialists who can offer housing and benefit advice and advocacy, life coaching and mentoring.
Young people staying with us who may not want to move to their own tenancy straight away are offered the option to apply to move into our independent living flats, MySpace.
Our MySpace residents are supported by a dedicated practitioner and a housing officer from Dunedin Canmore.
