EHAP Prison Outreach Project (POP)

The Prison Outreach Project provides a comprehensive housing advice, information and advocacy service to people in prison.

POP works with both remand and serving prisoners, providing a service in the following prisons:

  • HMP Edinburgh
  • HMP & YOI Polmont
  • HMP & YOI Cornton Vale

The service is currently delivered by Four Square as part of the Edinburgh Housing Advice Partnership (EHAP) - a consortium made up of CHAI, Four Square, Granton Information Centre and Move ON. To find out more about EHAP click here

Who can use this service?

The Prison Outreach Project works with remand and serving prisoners in HMP Edinburgh, HMP and Y.O.I Cornton Vale and HM Young Offenders Institution Polmont, to address and prevent housing and related problems.

More about POP

Prisoners of all ages can face accommodation related problems both when they start their sentence to when they're due for release.

POP assists prisoners with the following issues and more:

  • Abandonment of a tenancy due to being sentenced
  • Rent arrears due to time spent in jail
  • Other debt
  • Possible eviction
  • Homelessness

The POP service is based in the Link Centre of the respective prisons.

Prisoners can apply direct to POP or be referred by agencies operating in the Link Centres or by Scottish Prison Service staff.

POP works with individuals and with groups of prisoners, including those going through an Induction Programme.
