Number 20 - Supported Accommodation for young women in Edinburgh

Number 20 offers temporary supported accommodation to six young women who are homeless.

Who can use this service?

Young women between the ages of 16 and 21, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, can apply to Number 20. 

This includes young women who are sleeping rough, sofa surfing, in hostel or B&B accommodation, in insecure or inappropriate accommodation, or at risk staying with friends or relatives. 

Due to funding arrangements, applicants must be entitled to statutory funding.  If you are unsure of your entitlement, staff at Number 20 can help you find this out.

How can I access this service?
 
You can apply to Number 20 directly, or ask anyone else to refer you.  Details of your circumstances are usually taken by staff over the telephone.  If you prefer to apply in writing, a referral form is available on request. Our contact details are on the right of this page.
 
Interviews are held when places are expected to become available.

More about Number 20
  • A safe and friendly place to stay for up to 6 months
  • Located near the town centre
  • Each young woman has her own fully furnished bedsit
  • Our female staff are on duty between 8am and midnight with emergency cover at night
  • Each young woman is supported  by her own Number 20 worker. They meet at least once a week
  • Visitors are welcome between 9am and 11pm
  • Young woman can stay out overnight up to 3 nights a week, but otherwise need to be home by midnight
  • No alcohol or drugs are allowed in the building
Help and advice is available for housing options, health, housekeeping skills, tenancy issues, money management, education, training and employability opportunities, developing social and support networks, and accessing other services and resources.

£1 a day is charged to cover bills. Housing Benefit covers the rent for most young women in recepit of benefits. For those who are working, or on higher rates or benefits, it might be necessary to pay a contribution to the rent. This is calculated on a sliding scale. Social Work funding is avaiable for some young women. Support costs are paid by Supporting People.
