FAQ – Questions:

What does EFI do with the furniture I donate? 

We try to sell all donations within our store. The income this generates is used to fund the many services of our parent charity Four Square, which helps homeless people in and around Edinburgh.

Does EFI pick up furniture/donations for free?

Yes, we will collect your unwanted furniture at no expense to you; but it is at the driver’s discretion on each item/ uplift.

What can I donate? What do you accept?

We happily accept good quality donations of almost any:

  • Household & office furniture
  • Kitchen appliances
  • Small electrical goods
  • Bric-a-brac.

We do occasionally refuse items if they are not in good enough condition for us to re-sell.

Does EFI accept donations of electrical items/kitchen appliances?

Yes we do (but not gas cookers or TVs), we have staff that can PAT test them and then put them up for sale.

Can EFI dump my furniture?

No. EFI strongly promotes furniture reuse; we are unable to dump furniture, even for a fee.

Which days do EFI deliver to my post-code area?

Please call us on 0131 557 7900 for an up-to-date uplift & delivery schedule.

Can I get an uplift today? This morning?

Occasionally yes, but usually we ask for 1-2 days notice.

Does EFI perform deliveries and uplifts on weekends?

Unfortunately not.

Can I book my uplift/delivery for a specific time slot?

We have AM and PM slots, we can guarantee your delivery/uplift during the following hours:
AM: 8:30am to 11:30am
PM: 12:30pm to 3:30pm

When is the soonest that I can have an uplift performed?

We usually require a minimum of 7 days notice. We can occasionally perform an uplift at shorter notice, so it’s worth calling us just in case.

If I am donating items to EFI and having them uplifted from my property, can I purchase something in-store and get it delivered free of charge?

Unfortunately not. We have to charge for deliveries in order to cover costs associated with our vans.

What are your payment options?

We accept cash and card.

Does EFI fix/repair furniture?

Unfortunately not.

Can I donate an item and swap it for an item in-store?

Unfortunately not.

Does EFI offer a guarantee on appliances?

Yes. All our electrical items are guaranteed for 3 months following a PAT test.

Does EFI donate furniture to the needy?

Unfortunately not. EFI is entirely self-funded and so we are unable to provide furniture for free.
We are acutely aware that there is a shortage of affordable, good quality furniture available to people on lower incomes. This is why we sell furniture at heavily reduced prices to people on low-incomes and/or benefits.

Does EFI buy furniture?

Unfortunately not.

Does EFI accept donations of TVs?

We are unable to accept TVs or video players at this time.

Does EFI accept donations of PCs/monitors?

We are unable to accept PCs/monitors at this time.

What are your opening hours?

Mon – Sat: 9am to 5pm / Sun: 10am to 5pm

I’ve bought an item, but I want to keep it in store for more than I week, what are my options?

We charge a small fee of £2 per day/per item for customers who wish to keep their items in store for more than a week.

Once I have bought something, how long can i keep it in store?

We are happy to keep your items in store for up to a week. A small charge of £2 per day will be incurred for items stored with us for over a week.

Where is EFI? How many shops does EFI have?

We have 2 stores in Edinburgh at the following locations:

  • EFI in Canonmills: 67 Logie Green Road, Edinburgh, EH7 4H
  • EFI in Sighthill: 5 Bankhead Medway, Edinburgh, EH11 4BY

Is there any guarantee on your appliances?

Yes. All our electrical items are guaranteed for 3 months following a PAT test.

Can I buy items online?

Not at the moment. We have an online showroom where you can view some of our best items in stock. We may be introducing a full e-commerce system in the future.

If I buy something and it breaks, can I bring it back? What is your refund policy?

We are happy to give refunds to customers who wish to return items to us within 4 weeks of the date of purchase. Please note that we may only supply refunds to customers who can supply us with a valid receipt.

Can I reserve an item? How long can I reserve an item for?

Yes you can. We can reserve an item for you free of charge for up to 4 hours. Items can be held for up to 48 hours with a 15% non-refundable deposit (of the price of the item).

Is my deposit refundable?

Unfortunately not. See above.

Can I volunteer with EFI?
